Nightly Routines
The last post we talked about Morning Routines and how to build one that works for us so naturally, we have to talk about nightly routines.
Now, this is a bit more slept on (no pun-intended) but the most well-rounded individuals do implement a nightly routine in addition to their morning routine. Having a constant process to help wind down and prep self for sleep and the following day allows for better and more restful sleep.
Nightly routines can be difficult to maintain as the day drains us, throws curveballs, and by the time the evening comes, it’s very likely we have been disregulated. Not to mention, a lot of social events are in the evening which can make it difficult to maintain a regular routine as well.
In the past post, I talked about having a multi-hour morning routine, I do not think a nightly routine needs such a large chunk of time. We must accommodate the variables just mentioned so when building mine, I am going to break it down into an hour, hopefully from 10 - 11 pm.
So, as we did yesterday, let’s break down my IDEAL nightly routine:
- yin yoga (20 min)
- chug water / take supplements (5 min)
- brush teeth / wash face / moisturize (5 min)
- tidy up house / load laundry (10 min)
- prep tomorrow’s To-Do List (5 min)
- prep tomorrow’s outfit (5 min)
- spray plants (5 min)
- read (20 min)
- moment of thankfulness (5 min)
We are 20 minutes over an hour but that’s okay. Depending on the night’s events, 20 minutes can be sacrificed either with the yoga or the reading. But, if I find I am just sitting around the house, then beautiful, I can do it all.
Notice how in my routine, I include things that prep myself for the next day and also, there are things I also do in the morning (such as cleaning up the house). The goal is to accomplish things in both routines that alleviate time and effort throughout the day. I won’t have to spend as much time figuring out an outfit or cleaning the house or what I am supposed to do that day.
Routines are meant to set us up for success by making a set of habits second-nature.
What would be in your nightly routine?
