Morning Routines
Most people, though not all, start their day in the morning. So many experts and successful people swear by morning routines being the most impactful time of the day.
Aligning yourself and your actions first thing in the day sets a tone of intention and motivation that can help the rest of the day function at ease. Or, even if you are wanting to rest and relax the rest of the day, you at least got a few things done in the morning.
Trying to form a practical and realistic morning routine will definitely take some trial and error. There are endless suggestions of what you SHOULD do in the morning, but how can you discern what is meant for you?
I am currently in this situation. I wake up around 5:30, but don’t get up until 6 am on weekdays. My son wakes up at 8:30/9 so I have two and a half to three hours. So first, I am going to write my ideal routine with approximate times.
My ideal morning routine would contain:
- moment of slow waking and grateful contemplation (15 min)
- brush teeth / oil pulling / wash face (10 min)
- yin yoga (15 min)
- write blog posts / post on social media (45 min)
- tidy up the house / dishes (20 min)
- workout (30 min)
- get dressed / do make-up (30 min)
- pre-record TikTok’s (30 min)
Now the problem is, that is over three hours and sometimes I don’t even get 2.5 hours before my son wakes up.
Through weeks of trying a morning routine, I found that having time for yoga AND a workout is unrealistic so I decided to shift yoga in the evening. And because we immediately make dishes for breakfast, I can just do the dishes while my son is getting ready after breakfast. Also, the last take being pre-recording TikTok’s, is optional as I can do that anytime during the day. This allows the variable of when my son wakes up to only affect that task.
Now, my actual routine is:
- moment of slow waking and grateful contemplation (15 min)
- brush teeth / oil pulling / wash face (10 min)
- write blog posts / post on social media (45 min)
- tidy up the house (10 min)
- workout (30 min)
- get dressed / do make-up (30 min)
- pre-record TikTok’s (30 min) [OPTIONAL]
Yes, I wish I had more time to do the yoga, meditate, maybe watch a motivational video, and make intime I can habit stack and multitask some things. But, for now, I simply cannot wake up any earlier or squeeze anything else in so this is my morning routine.
What would be yours?
