Dream Interpretations

Done poopie believe dreams are totally random but the truth is, they are a glimpse into our subconscious. Even random events in dreams expose something that actively toils in the back of our mind. Whether silly, scary or profound, it’s something worth considering.

I was just reading a book yesterday (The Creative Act by Rick Rubin) and in a chapter he mentioned how helpful it is to creativity to really contemplate your dreams. He mentioned though it’s easy to forget them, to attempt to write about them as soon as you wake up.

Interestingly enough, last night, I had a dream that I was faced with someone who really hurt me. He listed all the ways he felt justified to do what he did while we sat in a restaurant and I flipped out publicly on him. I smacked his milkshake on the ground, his friend went after my partner, scaring our son, and I began fighting him as well. When I sat back down, a random older bystander kindly whispered to me, “Sometimes it’s good to show someone a little forgiveness when you put them in an uncomfortable situation.” And i immediately woke up.

Seems a little silly, knocking over a milkshake like a bully in an 80s movie, a little scary with my partner being attacked while holding hands with my son, and a little profound with a bystander telling me the exact wisdom I need for waking life as well.

Because it’s true, I do need to show forgiveness. I can’t keep holding onto this anger that I clearly still have as my dream self did things so uncharacteristic of me. My partner and son could be sucked into the consequences of my resentment and the reality is, the person I’m angry at, I did put him in a tough spot in life and in my dream.

This reminds me of something a Sadhu at the ashram I lived at once told us. She mentioned we can repay our karmas in our sleep. Our astral dream bodies will sometimes learn the lessons and pay our debts for us. How nice that would be, I certainly hope it’s true.

Dreams, though not always so obvious in their significance, are great to interpret. Even if it’s a superficial dream analysis like, “That was a stressful dream, I must be stressed” or something as deep as, “I got my hair cut and didn’t like it and symbolically hair can be looked at ad relinquishing power and strength or rebelling against the system.” It’s worth checking out the state of your subconscious.

Some things to consider is that writing about or replaying the dream immediately upon waking up can help you remember it. Also cannabis use often inhibits dreaming and especially being able to recall it.

What have been some of your most interesting dreams that you can remember?
