What is Realistic Intentionality?

I often sit and contemplate how we, as humans, have faced so much division and abstraction from one thing, one person, from another. Yet, we share the same existential curse (or blessing) of being born into a temporary body on a temporary planet where we have constant temporary experiences with a constant passing of a temporary moment. In this suspension of temporary circumstances, we get told how to live our lives, we feel pushes and pulls of desires and obligations, and we do our best to do what we need to while also doing what we want. Though, the average person, feels unfulfilled, unsatisfied, and forced to exist a life of restriction and dread. Somehow the scales have tipped, we have been led astray, we lead lives completely in aversion to our truest, most precious callings. What a devastating situation, knowing with every moment, our lives are coming closer to their end with so much left unsaid and undone.

Facing this catastrophe is key however, for with the realisation that all is temporary and we have choice and freewill, we are granted a mindset to live a life with our true intention. A mindset that can carry us to realise our most inner urges. A mindset that can make this life worth living in its most temporary glory. A mindset that ensures decades won’t pass in misery ending with deathbed regrets and heartaches. Realistic, intentional living through means of taking every moment with awareness and purpose; to live the life you were meant to live.

Realistic intentionality is not about quitting your job and maxing out your credit card with a trip to Italy. It is about everyday moving towards that desire while doing what you have to in a way you want to.

No one wants to hate their job, their responsibilities, their chores. The distaste for those things are a natural byproduct of doing something without purpose and/or passion and the fear of missing out on the things you truly want. And let’s be real, some things are nearly impossible to have passion for. But, one can reframe their mental process about the task to make it align with their goals and dreams.

Yeah, scrubbing the toilet sucks, but having a clean house to host your favourite people to play your favourite games makes it worth it. How quickly and how well can you clean it today? Instead of mindlessly doing it, doing it with drive, a little extra oomph, more intention. Yes, working in a dead-end job is mind numbing and infuriating, but it gets you the money for that new guitar or it allows you to meet people that can enhance your life in one way or another. Everyday, by clocking in and getting it done, you are accomplishing a step in the grand scheme of what you want.

And the things you like to do, how can you do them more? Off the top of your head, you could easily name three things that you love to do but don’t do often. By reprioritising these things, no matter how simple or how complex, you will breathe joy into your life. Its easy to let time pass and default to scrolling on your phone or doing something that doesn’t serve you. The reality is, most people have time to do what they want, but they simply don’t. And if they don’t have time, they do not rearrange their life so they do. Living intentionally, you set the things that bring you joy a priority. Even if they are difficult to achieve, the pursuit of them is near the top of the list.

Now, if you are thinking to yourself, “what if I don’t know what I want? What if I don’t have a dream career or hobbies or a goal.” You are not exempt from needing realistic intentionality, in fact, you are the kind of person that this kind of thinking is meant for. By taking every moment with intention, you can begin to notice the subtle callings of your soul. Everything from personal style to where you want to be in ten years can be investigated through these means. Our spirit reaches for things in awe without us even noticing everyday. Being present in the mind and self, you will soon feel these reaches and realise the calling you weren’t even aware of.

With no real changes, no monetary investments, you can change your entire life to be the life you deserve. Living life in full presence, realistic intentionality for the average person looking for an above average life. It is time to create the life you exist for.

Join me in this journey, with everyday we move closer to our dreams, together.
