Figuring Out Your Journey
Well, this is where it truly begins. Where are we going with all of this? What is the point?
In my previous blog post, WHAT IS REALISTIC INTENTIONALITY, I mentioned:
“Now, if you are thinking to yourself, “what if I don’t know what I want? What if I don’t have a dream career or hobbies or a goal.” You are not exempt from needing realistic intentionality, in fact, you are the kind of person that this kind of thinking is meant for. By taking every moment with intention, you can begin to notice the subtle callings of your soul. Everything from personal style to where you want to be in ten years can be investigated through these means. Our spirit reaches for things in awe without us even noticing everyday. Being present in the mind and self, you will soon feel these reaches and realise the calling you weren’t even aware of.”
I summarized the idea that with mindfulness and intention, you can become more clear of what your ideal life would look like. By intentionally telling yourself, “Through out my day, I am going to notice the things I admire, the things I like, and the things I fantasize or think about fondly to find more direction” you are most likely going to at least figure out a little more than what you had known previously.
You may notice you like talking to people, or that you prefer to work on small hands on projects, or you may see someone doing something and think, “wow, that looks really cool”. It doesn’t matter if it’s occupationally specific or it’s just a style of activity, hey, it could be as vague as doing something creative. Every observation brings you closer to a direction.
It doesn’t have to be a job, it can be a lifestyle or a type of person too. Maybe you see a chic someone drinking coffee and writing poetry, if you are enamored by it, it’s something you should try. I’m not saying you rebrand your whole life to wear black turtle necks and write soliloquies. But certainly trying it for a Sunday morning can’t hurt. If you see someone going on hikes and constantly taking selfies on top of mountains, you can find a local nature trail and take in the sights.
A sense of purpose or direction does not need to be a career or a big house with a wife and kids. It can (and should) just be a chase of passions.
I don’t want to be the reason someone finds a great job (though I do love that!), I want to be a help in someone finding a great life. From their relationship with themselves, with the world and it’s offerings, and their relationship with others. A well-rounded sense of appreciation of life in more moments than not.
I am guilty of it myself, thinking that my purpose was based around starting a family or making loads of money in my name. But, I realized that life is more than the home you go to and the name you’ve made for yourself. Life is every moment in between just as much as that. It’s the way you engage with the cashier, the presence in a menial task, the time spent doing something with no expectation.
Your direction, your journey, your path is all of it.
How do you want to feel when you are cleaning your home or sitting in silence? What are the activities you sprinkle throughout the week? How do you want to earn money and what do you want to do with it? Where do you want to go and who do you want to go with?
If you don’t know, it’s time to find out. Tap in and notice e v e r y t h i n g. The possibilities are all around you and the answers can be felt within.
