What is Shadow Work?
Carl Jung described the act of examining and healing the negative, suppressed parts of our being as “shadow work”. Whether it’s anger, trauma, envy… the things we actively try to deny but that remain under the surface, those are our shadows.
Everyone has shadows. It seems unavoidable in a world such as ours. But yet, we consciously and subconsciously hide them away from others in shame, and even worse, ourselves. For things so heavy and dark as those, holding onto them can be detrimental to our spirit and life. They eat away at us, cause self-sabotaging beliefs and patterns, and can destroy any chance of self-love and happiness.
Luckily, shadow work is pretty trendy right now; there are journals, books, prompts, and videos all about healing your shadows.
This week here on the blog we are going to dive deep on shadow work. Tomorrow, we will get into addressing your shadows.
So for now, I will leave you with this:
What are some shadows you feel within you?
